Recommended positive control: Lymphoid tissue, inflamed tissue etc
One of the representative markers for histiocyte/monocytes and its neoplastic couterparts.
Plasmacytoid dendritic cells, Langerhans cells, Interdigitationg dendritic cells and their neoplastic couterparts are also positive.
Sometimes a lot of CD68-positive histiocytes may present in tumor tissue, and it may lead us into misinterpretation as CD68-positive tumors.
Specificity is unsatisfactory. Kp-1 is also postive in granulocytes. Many non-histoicytic tumors may be positive for CD68. CD163 is greated specificity for macrophages.
